The Details

Tasting Note This wine is pristine and intense with aromas and flavours of lemon myrtle and tea tree blossom. With crushed quartz minerality, it is evocative, seamless and ageless.
Best Enjoyed With Enjoy with kingfish sashimi and chilli lime dressing, or vegetable spring rolls with Vietnamese herbs.
Treatment The grapes from the oldest vines on our Pewsey Vale Vineyard Estate are handpicked and the juice wild fermented, then aged for a few months on lees before bottling and release. The 1961 Block is proof that a healthy, biodiverse vineyard needs little winemaking intervention, as the grapes and yeast from the vineyard combine perfectly to make this evocative wine.

Accolades

“Riesling sourced from a very special site for the variety, with vines planted in 1961 way up near the 500m mark in High Eden. There seems to be a touch more concentration this year? Still steely true and packed with crunchy lime and green apple, Christmas lily, fennel tops, ozone and stone with a focus and minerally velocity that takes the breath away. Long, dry and wonderful drinking.” - Dave Brookes, Halliday Wine Companion 2025

Crisp and invigorating
Delicious, engaging and utterly thrilling. This is an excellent Riesling from Pewsey Vale's 1961 Block. So fragrant, aromas diffuse from the glass with ease and fill the room before you’ve even lifted the glass. Quartz and white stone minerality hum beneath a lively mix of green apples, lemons and that signature lemon myrtle note this site expresses oh so well. There’s a lovely tang through the palate - crisp and invigorating that keeps the refreshment factor high. Apple sours ripple through the close with a fine brush of texture giving subtle shape. Brilliant!

A palate that extends and extends
This is an incredibly pure and precise Riesling from this old block in Eden Valley. Interestingly, it was wild fermented and has resulted in a wine that delivers both texture and linear precision. Fine, minerally, lemony notes, and a palate that extends and extends. Certainly has some cellaring potential.

A finesse wine, indeed
Light yellow colour, with a similarly reserved bouquet of lemon curd, the palate soft, light, open-knit and beautifully balanced. It's a more delicate style and is starting to drink well already, although it has plenty in the tank for the future. A finesse wine, indeed.

The acid drive impeccable
Very pale lemon with a green highlight. Savoury undertones from the lees work, native and lime citrus blossoms, lime flesh, minerally clean chalk, fly spray/ozone and with a suggestion of fennel frond. The depth of the nose extends through the palate where it is well structured with intensity, focus and precision. Plenty of savoury drive to give counterpoint to the Estate with its musky nuances. The acid drive impeccable. Cellar-worthy.

A beautifully tactile wine
Pale colour. Aromatically elegant, tonic water, lemon, wet stone and herbal garden note. Lovely fruit concentration with perfectly pitched acidity, lemon curd, grapefruit and touch tonic water on chalky finish. A beautifully tactile wine with a long and promising future. Drink 2027–2042
