The Details

Tasting Note This wine is pristine and intense with aromas and flavours of lemon myrtle and tea tree blossom. With crushed quartz minerality, it is evocative, seamless and ageless.
Best Enjoyed With Enjoy with kingfish sashimi and chilli lime dressing, or vegetable spring rolls with vietnamese herbs.
Treatment The grapes from the oldest vines on our Pewsey Vale Vineyard Estate are handpicked and the juice wild fermented, then aged for a few months on lees before bottling and release. The 1961 Block is proof that a healthy, biodiverse vineyard needs little winemaking intervention, as the grapes and yeast from the vineyard combine perfectly to make this evocative wine.

Accolades

Gentle and expansive single vineyard Eden Valley Riesling
Pale colour. Fresh minerally aromatics with developing lime, slaty aromas with hint oil skin star anise notes. Lime, lemon curd, hint apricot, orange rind flavours with flinty, oil skin notes, spring water freshness and fine pure quartz-like acidity. Finishes minerally and long. Gentle and expansive single vineyard Eden Valley Riesling with attractive fruit complexity and well-integrated acidity. Drinking well now but should keep for a long while. Drink now – 2032

Superb purity and aromatic energy
I do love this wine, which is in some ways a reserve bottling of Pewsey Vale from the original 1961 plantings, although the history of the property goes back far further than that. There is a superb purity and aromatic energy to the wine with pear, green apple white flower aromas radiating out and wild ferments adding a slight savoury touch. Compact and focussed, there are layers of minerality with subtle jasmine tea, lavender and citrus pith flavours plus a gentle grip that adds heart before a long and more savoury finish. These is excellent length but it also feels far from its peak so try to put a couple away for optimal drinking.
